Dietmar Pfister

What counts is an open ear for the wishes of our guests and customers.

Every wine lover knows the INVINUM in the Innsbruck Altstadt – it has been well-established for more than 10 years now and attracts fans of Austrian wines in particular. For the past four years, the wine bar and “vinotheque” has been represented in the Markthalle, too, as vinum.in – with many similarities but also differences. We meet wine expert Antonis Hrissanthakis from Rhodes and owner (and trained sommelier), Dietmar Pfister, who together with his team manages the wine bar in the Markthalle.

Markthalle:

Whilst the INVINUM in the Altstadt specialises in Austrian wines, wines from other countries also have a place on your wonderful shelves.

Dietmar:

That’s the biggest difference between our two shops. A larger assortment makes sense here in the Markthalle: we are situated between oriental and French establishments. The Italian vendors are just a few steps further. Since we love this diversity in the Markthalle, we want to represent it in our business, too.

Markthalle:

And the things you have in common?

Dietmar:

Definitely the value for money. And that’s also the reason why we value the Markthalle location so highly. All of the vendors here place great importance on quality and advice for the customers. We love having contact with the customers and really enjoy being able to advise them on our products. People’s tastes are different and we take that into consideration. But what counts is an open ear for the wishes of our guests and customers. We are united by the love of eating and drinking well. This is, after all, something fundamentally natural and should be associated with joy and pleasure.

Markthalle:

Would you say there is a trend when it comes to tastes and preferences here in the Tyrol?

Antonis:

The Austrian white wines such as Grüner Veltliner, Riesling or Sauvignon Blanc are constant favourites. Austria can be very proud of these wines – they are of the highest quality and are also very popular abroad. But we still want to enthuse our guests about new wines. The new generation of vintners in particular are bringing some fabulous red wines onto the market. We want to support this by presenting these wines here in our shop. 2015 was a very good year indeed for some winemakers.

Markthalle:

You have a special place for recommendations in your display.

Antonis:

Yes, we introduce new wines every month, ensuring we have a well-balanced selection. Of course, we can’t leave out France, Italy and Spain but we don’t want to forget about Austria’s vintners either. With us, you’ll find delicious drinks from all corners. I’d like to add that we also have sparkling wines and spirits in our range.

Markthalle:

You have a wonderful view here – can customers enjoy your products on the patio in good weather?

Antonis:

Of course! It really would be a pity if you couldn’t make the most of the view! With a glass of something delicious and a plate of olives and cured ham, you can admire the Nordkette peaks and toast the Innsbruckers as they amble by.

Markthalle:

So aside from all of your liquid delights, is there a chance of a fine accompaniment in the form of culinary treats?

Antonis:

But of course! We serve olives, various spreads, ham, prosciutto and cheese in our shop and guest garden, naturally harmonise perfectly with our wines.
