" At the Flavour Box, we have everything you need for a delicious mulled wine even in spring.

When Melanie Schütz opened the Flavour Box in the Markthalle four years ago at the age of just 26, she marketed only teas and muesli ingredients in her then small stand. In the meantime, she has not only expanded her stand, but also her range. With the help of her mother, Helga, the colourful and aromatic stand has become a port of call for many who place great importance on high-quality ingredients, and not just for breakfast.

Markthalle:

Melanie, how does a young woman end up wanting to specialise in teas?

Melanie:

I was always a big fan of tea and was interested in the various effects of the different sorts of tea. The knowledge of the healing powers of flowers, herbs and spices is based on centuries, if not millennia, of history. My love of the topic then led to the opening of my own shop. Now we have around 180 teas in our range, although we can of course create special blends for our customers. We have many customers who come by, tell us about their complaints, and ask us for a suitable blend that they can brew at home. Success has proven us right: the customers come back time and again and ask for advice. But of course we also make blends of tea that simply taste delicious. Enjoying life and the little things in it also contribute to a sense of well-being, after all.

Markthalle:

In the meantime, you have considerably more on offer, although your selection of teas is still very impressive.

Melanie:

We have built up a comprehensive range of spices and seasonings in particular. Salt and pepper, the absolute original seasonings, are amazingly diverse and can complement dishes so perfectly when you know what type is suitable for which ingredient. Including salt, pepper and sugar specialities, we have a total of over 200 different products that provide a good meal with that little extra polish.

Markthalle:

Spices and teas – are any varieties of these also seasonal?

Melanie:

Absolutely! We actually feel the changes in the season very strongly – naturally not in the spices themselves; they are more or less timeless. But right when barbecue season gets going, the grill-master will visit us to ask for some advice. Demand therefore depends on the rest of the food trade. But at the Flavour Box, we do have everything you need for a delicious mulled wine even in spring. In Innsbruck you sometimes need it right through to July.

Markthalle:

You can also find here various flours, baking mixes, vinegars and oils…

Melanie:

The vinegars and oils are something that I would very much like to recommend to the visitors here in the Markthalle. We have two really excellent Austrian suppliers who work extremely hard on the quality and flavour of their products. The vinegar in particular, which by the way represents one of the few vegan brands, was developed by a Styrian physicist.
These products don’t just make a delicious salad – many people aren’t aware of how vinegar and oil can be used to refine other dishes

Markthalle:

So the Markthalle location is really quite perfect for you – the visitors can come with the products they’ve already bought and equip themselves here with the finishing touches for the perfect culinary taste explosion.

Melanie:

We’re happy to help and advise to the best of our knowledge – especially in terms of spice combinations, we’re always ready to help customers come up with new creations.
